Local Winter Fruits & Vegetables

Getting your local fruit and vegetables during the winter can be tough. Don’t let the limitations in variety get you down, instead try some new local winter foods. According to the WSDA, the following foods are available in Washington locally in the month of January.

FRUIT

  • Apples
  • Pears
  • Frozen berries

VEGETABLES

Green:

  • Chards
  • Kales
  • Mizuna

Orange:

  • Carrots
  • Pumpkins
  • Sweet potatoes (yams)
  • Winter squash (Acorn, Butternut & Hubbard)

Starchy:

  • Potatoes
  • Sunchokes (Jerusalem artichoke)

Other:

  • Beets
  • Brussel sprouts
  • Celery root (celeriac)
  • Leeks
  • Onions, yellow
  • Turnips
